I like the way he's not about the money. A lot of painters are all about how much they get for a painting. They measure success by the amount they get. I never put my price up in 25 years. Because I love to paint for the average person who appreciates the art soooo much more than the rich. The rich just buy them because they can. Usually means nothing to them. When you put a painting in an average persons house they are talking about that art for there rest of their life. They treasure it like it's the best thing they ever had. Iv made many people cry with paintings Iv done for them, many people, but never a wealthy person.

I've never been able to mix close to the vibrant colour you can get from a tube of Turquoise or Cobalt Teal

I'm really good at drawing, and with painting I can mix colors to literally match photo reference or what I'm looking at, but then that produces a bad result. I see works like yours where you can interpolate the colors in a much better way.. Like picking blue for the shadow of a cows white head, vs a grey when I saw the reference. To me that might be my biggest block in painting, interpolating reference or reality into rich and logical colors in paint to give a strong sense of volume that works coherently with all the other colors.. That to me is a mastery.. Though I assume that's just practice.. If there's a logic to that, I'd love to be pointed in a direction to learn it.

Andrew is masterful and inspiring- much like his beloved New Zealand is to him. Don’t despair viewers who are serious artists, though it is easy to become discouraged. He shows us a creative path and if we are disciplined and attentive. We can do it!

Could you do a video on how to paint riverbead rocks? I went out and got some reference material, and in the photo there is thousands of little rocks under the river and im not sure how to go about making it convincing. I could send you the photo if you want so you know what i mean.

I wasnt making art as much this year, tho i was born with crayons, i thought i didnt care much about art but im crying from this video. Its making more sense why i havnt been painting digitally anymore, i have been leaving eraser marker drawings on the fridge for my family for everytime i leave notes of left overs being in fridge. i see now that i didnt not care about art i just didnt like much of the online art world because of its associations of this silent soul draining pressure of appealing for big business. Art is human, and art cant be seperated from human, which i didnt realize was the reason i felt grief about when ai art came out: i had this fear that maybe humanity can be seperated from art, I felt the grief but didnt know the words describing the cause of that grief.
